Compact & dual-wavelength TD-NIRS device
The NIRSBOX is a portable, dual-wavelength, Time-Domain NIRS system designed to investigate and monitor optical properties in biological tissue. It utilizes picosecond laser pulses and single-photon detection to provide precise measurements. With its dual-wavelength single-channel probe, the NIRSBOX measures absolute values of local oxyhemoglobin, deoxyhemoglobin, total hemoglobin concentrations and provides you with the tissue saturation index (TSI).
Weighing approximately 3 kilograms and measuring 20 x 12 x 24.5 centimeters, the NIRSBOX offers the full capabilities of TD-NIRS in a compact, portable form. This makes it easy to transport for studies involving multiple subjects at different locations. The NIRSBOX is delivered as a plug-and-play solution and is compatible with various probes to suit your research needs. Its user-friendly design eliminates the need for a specialized technician. For enhanced portability, we offer a rolling table and tablet configuration. The device also features an internal battery pack, allowing operation without a constant power supply.
Key strengths of the NIRSBOX include minimal warm-up time, high precision, and exceptional measurement stability:
Good Reproducibility: Less than 2% variation over one month on tissue-mimicking phantoms.
Remarkably Stable: Less than 1% variation over 14+ hours of continuous measurement.
Highly precise: Verified through the MEDPHOT assessment protocol for Diffuse Optics devices.

Continuous monitoring of absolute values
Time Domain Near Infrared Spectroscopy (TD-NIRS) is a non-invasive technique using low-power laser light to measure biomarkers, like brain function or muscle hemodynamics. Short light pulses (less than 200 ps) alter as they travel through tissue due to absorption and scattering. A sensitive photodetector reconstructs these pulses, and data processing allows the estimation of tissue absorption and scattering coefficients, which can indicate oxy- and deoxyhemoglobin concentrations.
TD-NIRS records the time each photon takes to travel through the sample, adding a new dimension to traditional NIRS. This timing helps determine the depth of photon penetration, enabling selective measurement of deep tissue changes while minimizing superficial and systemic influences.
