Recommended Brain and Sports Sciences conferences to visit in 2023
As it is again possible to travel without further restrictions to most places, we are happy to be able to go to in-person conferences and have real-life conversations in 2023. We especially welcome the opportunity to talk to interested and NIRS-enthusiastic researchers from different application fields. In this blog post, we list our four top picks of conferences that you should not miss in 2023.
Organization for Human Brain Mapping (OHBM)
The aim of OHBM is uniting researchers who investigate in anatomical and functional human brain organization using neuroimaging (e.g. EEG, (f)MRI and fNIRS) to promote knowledge about this topic and its application areas. The first OHBM meeting took place in Paris 1995 and has been held annually at alternating locations since then. This year, the 29th meeting will take place in Montreal, Canada, July 22 – 26 expecting around 3,000 participants.
ARTscientific series 2023
The ARTscientific symposium is an intimate conference that brings together (f)NIRS researchers from different applications and locations to talk about their research as well as sharing knowledges. We are elated that we can finally organize the on-site ARTscientific symposium after the global pandemic break.
To make the ARTscientific more approachable, this year’s (f)NIRS symposium will be held in two different times and continents, which each will differ in content, keynote and oral speakers, and show how versatile NIRS is:
Frankfurt, Germany, May 05-06 2023
Bangkok, Thailand, September 22 – 23, 2023
The ARTscientific aims to build a platform for researchers working with NIRS to exchange ideas and get informed about latest findings and technical developments.
American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)
ACSM organizes an annual meeting gathering researchers worldwide to share educational and practical content and discuss newest findings and developments in exercise sciences and sports medicine. The ultimate goal is to make people’s lives healthier. This year, the conference will happen in Denver, Colorado, USA May 30 – June 02 2023.
The European College of Sports Science (ECSS)
ECSS is a non-profit scientific organization devoted to the promotion and dissemination of multi-and interdisciplinary research in sport and exercise science. This year, the ECSS annual meeting will be held in Paris from 4-7 July 2023 – one year prior to the Olympic and Paralympic Games of Paris.
As we at Artinis came from the research field ourselves, we’re also looking forward to participating in these conferences.

Block design is one of the most frequently used experimental designs when performing fNIRS experiments, as it offers various advantages. In this blogpost, we explain characteristics, advantages and considerations of block design experiments, and give recommendations on how to correctly use it in your fNIRS research.
