Setting up the Versatile Bio

The Versatile Bio is easy to set up and can be placed on multiple parts of the body. Watch this tutorial by Bitbrain to learn how to use the Versatile Bio in five steps.

Measure multiple biosignals simultaneously

The Versatile Bio is a wearable and easy-to-use biosignal amplifier. It can be used to measure, amongst others, analogue (e.g. GSR, RESP, TEMP) and electrical (ExG) biosignals, and activity and location of movement (EMG, IMU), from up to 21 (35) channel in real-time. The amplifier is lightweight (172 g), hand-sized and can be fixated on various locations, for instance arm, waist or leg. This increases application options and comfort, and makes the device suitable for measurements involving movement, even outside typical lab settings. Coming with enhanced features such as 256 Hz sample rate, 8+ hours of recording time and sensors with active shielding with optimized DRL for improved signal-to-noise ratio and artifact reduction, the Versatile Bio ensures long and reliable recordings of various biosignals using only one device.

Why combine fNIRS and biosignal measurements?

The Versatile Bio is a perfect fit for our fNIRS devices, and offers multiple advantages.  The combination of Versatile Bio and fNIRS allows researchers to gain a complete picture of human physiology in fields such as neuroscience, sports science, and clinical research. Additionally, the supplementary signals from the Versatile Bio can be utilized to correct physiological noise in fNIRS data (e.g. von Lühmann et al. (2020), Klein (2024)), which recently is gaining increased prominence.

Thanks to the wearability of the devices, experiments can be conducted in both naturalistic and laboratory settings, ensuring comfort and free movement for both subjects and researchers. The biosignals recorded by Versatile Bio can easily be streamed into OxySoft, our proprietary NIRS data acquisition software, using Lab Streaming Layer (LSL). This ensures perfect synchronization of all acquired data, thereby simplifying further analysis.
